It\u2019s our job as patients, to help them help us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re at one of these places, you\u2019ll also have very little time to communicate what\u2019s going on as HCPs are very busy and have many patients they need to care for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to quickly communicate your health status so that they can get the right diagnosis and develop the right treatment plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>SODS: The Basics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SODS stands for: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Symptom(s)<\/strong> &#8211; what are you experiencing health wise that got you to seek care.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Onset<\/strong> (when did it start)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Duration <\/strong>(how long)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Severity<\/strong> (how bad)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ALSO:<\/strong> You\u2019ll want to include any chronic health issues as well, including any medication you take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This approach not only saves time but it focuses the conversation on the health issues you need the doctor\u2019s attention for making it easier for the doctor to get the right diagnosis and treatment plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every time a HCP gets the wrong diagnosis, you risk death or injury. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is estimated that about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/12\/15\/health\/hospital-misdiagnoses-study\/index.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/12\/15\/health\/hospital-misdiagnoses-study\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7.4 million diagnostic errors<\/a> occur in the U.S. EVERY YEAR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use SODS and reduce your risk of being one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Save Your Life: <strong>SODS in Action<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHi Doctor, my name is Lorelei, I have headache (symptom) that started yesterday (onset) and has been going on since then, so over 24 hours (duration), it\u2019s so bad that I\u2019ve vomited and I\u2019m unable to rest (severity).
